Plein Air Public Lands: Day 22

Capitol Reef area
I feel like we’ve been on the road for three months. But it also feels like three minutes. Some days have felt like three days in one, while others flash by. After three weeks on the road, Rex and I have made some observations.
Three Weeks in and Three Weeks to go
My notes and observations
- The wind is my friend and enemy.
- After awhile you cant smell your stank or your lover’s stank.
- My brain has a difficult time focusing and creating in the heat.
- Bats are badass.
- Lizards are fun to watch, especially when they’re watching you.
- Rex is a machine.
- The southern Utah landscape sings in lights and shadows.
- I might have Accidensophobia (fear of car accidents).
- One must always be on the lookout for dust devils. I’ve developed an ear for their call.
- Climbing down a ladder in the middle of the night isn’t too bad. I’ve even mastered it in flip flops.
- Rocks are so flipping cool.
- Insects are everywhere. Perhaps I need to incorporate bugs into dehydrated meals, especially the ones who try to eat me.
Rex’s notes and observations
- I don’t like bugs.
- It’s hard to find both a camp and plein air spot (in one), but it is possible.
- We have setting up camp down to a system. Working together as a team, we are super fast.
- Homemade dehydrated camp meals are the only way to go.
- People are in a hurry to get somewhere, but I don’t where that somewhere is.
- Four is good number of camp tubs. Five is too many.
- Diptychs are cool.
