Plein Air: Glacier National Park, Montana
By: Kristina Lyn Heitkamp
Despite the smoky haze of fire season, Rex and I adventured to Glacier National Park for plein air writing and painting. The summer tourist traffic was steady and Rex found himself the center of stranger’s photographs. Note to on-lookers: a plein air artist is happy to talk to a curious inquiring stranger but taking obnoxious selfies with the artist (without permission) is offensive and rude. The bears and bison of Yellowstone National Park do not like it, neither do plein air artists.
After fending off the occasional annoyance, a most interesting spectator came in for a closer look, or closer scrounge for food. As Rex noted, the Montana Mountain Chicken enjoyed the active day and leftover crumbs.
