Plein Air: Charlo, Montana
By: Kristina Lyn Heitkamp
Some of the best places to plein air write are the most unassuming and just beyond the pavement. This beautiful spring day, Rex and I were on the hunt for the perfect spot. Occasionally, we will stumble upon an ideal scene, other days we may spend over an hour looking for a decent spot.
Just south of the Nine Pipe National Wildlife Refuge, Rex and I found this landscape after pulling off the side of the road. We were going to turn around and head back to a place we passed earlier. We walked just beyond the roadside turnaround and found this beauty. Immediately, we set up. With the majestic Mission Mountain Range as the backdrop, Rex and I spent the day painting, writing, and daydreaming. After the successful day, we stopped in St. Ignatius at Rod’s Harvest Foods for chicken on a stick. It was a good day.
