Plein Air: Missoula, Montana
By: Kristina Lyn Heitkamp
Blushing Wednesday. The sky was a rosy pink and ash fell freely from the sky. The air was thick with smoke as we set out for an evening of plein air along the Blackfoot River. Our fire season was shaping up to be fierce. According to Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), the 2015 fire season lit up on March 9 with August 10-16 being the busiest week with 76 new fires. Luckily there were no fatalities or serious injuries. However 63% of the fires were caused by people. When adventuring in the great outdoors, please remember the DNRC’s wise words: One less spark, one less wildfire. Help prevent human caused wildfires.
